Growing up in New Canaan, my goal was to be a multi-sport athlete in high school. I wanted to not only play multiple sports, but to excel at each of them. This goal was not going to be easy to attain, and required hundreds of hours of hard work to try and perfect my craft. But one thing I could always count on was the full support of the NCHS coaches and coaching staff. Their belief in me and their confidence that I could succeed at anything I put my mind to really helped me achieve my goal, in becoming a three sport athlete. What truly helped fuel me to excel in these sports was the competitive fire the other New Canaan student-athletes brought to the table. The intensity of practices made not only me, but my teammates far better. The emotion and importance of representing New Canaan every game was, and is, a huge driving force for myself and my teammates. We knew that we had to fight as hard as we could for the coaches putting in the time and effort to run our practices and games, for our parents who supported us, and drove us to all our youth activities, and for our teammates, who day in and day out were next to us, grinding and working to become the best. This feeling of representing the town of New Canaan is unparalleled, and this is especially magnified when we played Darien. This storied rivalry is a unique experience, and one that I continue to hold dear. I cherish every game I played against the Blue Wave – every win is a priceless memory, while every loss is another reason to get better. This attitude that I have was gained from my time as an NCHS student athlete, and the spotlight it put on me, attracted college interest for my Lacrosse ability. But, when I went to Williams University to play Lacrosse, I also wanted to play hockey. A two sport college season is grueling for the mind and the body, but the time I had spent as an NCHS Ram prepared me for what I had to face. In the end, being a Ram is a blessing – enjoy your time at NCHS.
